Our History

Robert Chorost & David Schiesel founded Precious Metals Refinery L.L.C. in Tucson Arizona in 2011. Our goal was to offer clients a direct place to sell without a middleman in order for our clients to receive the most money possible for their items. The inspiration of the company was family member Richard Baron, former Executive Director of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers and Director of the National Association of Watch Dealers. Baron used this knowledge, as well as the experience acquired while owning and managing multiple retail jewelry stores, to help him create a separate division of PMR in Newport Beach, CA. He succeeded in his vision of making PMR a premier diamond, jewelry, gold, silver, platinum, watch, and coin-buying company. Although he never possessed any equity interest in the company, he was still a consulting resource for many years. After many years of being Managing Director Robert Chorost and Julia Chorost acquired David Schiesel’s half of the business with the desire to open more locations and to continue offering more services to the public.  Richard E. Baron sadly passed away on December 25^th 2018 after battling cancer and dialysis treatment.  Richard’s legacy will be remembered for standardizing the jewelry appraisal industry.
